Gateway Fire Protection District is pleased to announce we have been awarded a grant through the Idaho Fire Chiefs Association Fire Fighter License Plate (FFLP) Grant Program to purchase a much-needed laptop for Fire Chief McFadden.

We want to extend our sincere thanks to the Idaho State Legislators, the Idaho Fire Chiefs Association, fellow firefighters, and especially the citizens of Idaho who continue to support this program through the purchase of firefighter license plates.

Formed in 1968, the Gateway Fire Protection District serves the western portion of Benewah County in Northern Idaho. The district is divided into three equal parts (or sub districts), based on population, and governed by a three-member board. The district's mission is to improve the safety of our community through prevention, education and skilled emergency response

The fire department serves citizens in the City of Plummer and Heyburn State Park, encompassing over 180 square miles. In addition, GFPD has reciprocal mutual aid and automatic aid partnerships with many bordering agencies, including those in Kootenai County, Spokane County, and Whitman County.

As with most modern fire departments, Gateway Fire provides Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at the basic life support level. EMS serves citizens in the City of Plummer, City of Tensed, City of Desmet, the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes, and Heyburn State Park, encompassing over 400 square miles.

We cannot serve the people of Benewah County without our wonderful volunteers and are always looking for individuals who would like to join our GFPD team. Contact our EMS Administrator, Daedra Chapman, if you are interested in joining our EMS team or our Fire Chief, Greg McFadden, if you are interested in joining our fire team.
